Rocksmith is the single greatest thing to come to guitar learning since ever
Using Rocksmith, I’ve learned more songs, and can play them well enough where listeners will recognize the tune in the past 3 years, than I have in the previous 30 years of trying to learn from books, VHS, and Youtube videos.
It’s fucking fantastic. You can just play songs over and over (at the speed you like, you can slow down the whole song if you want). You can also go into the mini-game modes where they make you play scales, chords, or technique-related stuff, like harmonics and bending.
The Akai MPC Studio is everything you need to make beats like J Dilla and Kanye West
Gloomhaven – One of the most involved board games ever released
Gloomhaven is an amazing game of amazing mechanics and epic proportions. There is 22lbs of cardboard in the mammoth box, but once the pieces are sorted into a storage solution of choice, and the game set up, it’s actually quite pleasing to play through! The combat system is very well designed – you have lots of interesting choices to make, opportunity to create your own style through your character, and the fights don’t feel samey even when you’re played a lot of scenarios.
Pandemic – Widely considered one of the best board games of all time and entirely topical.
The best gaming experience I have ever had was playing through this with my cousins and one of my best friends. I stated earlier that I thought Pandemic was a near perfect design already, but now each game has changes and surprises and discovery. The twist had me out of my chair. That was such a cool moment. We went 12-4 in our 16 plays, but every game was close. Yea, the story is pretty linear. Every person gets the same story at the same point in time, but that doesn’t matter. I was engaged with the story. Each added element every month gave us something new to work with. We had some great “pulled that out of your dorsal region*” moves after conversing for 15 minutes when what we should do finally just clicked. I shadowboxed my copy and I look at it every day and think about the special moments that came from it. I loved Pandemic Legacy Season 1.
